BATU PAHAT, April 7 (Bernama) — Taking into consideration the people’s interest in everthing it does is one of the two major ingredients for the success of the Barisan Nasional government in administering the country until now, said Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
The prime minister said since the time when it went against the Malayan Union until the fight against the communist era, the concept of winning the hearts and sentiments of the people had always been held by the BN government.
“Similarly, during the implementation of the New Economic Policy and subsequently the National Development Policy, everything was still centred on people and today, we implement the concept of people first, performance now,” he said.
He was speaking at the launching of the “Jelajah Janji Ditepati” programme at Batu Pahat Stadium here today, which was attended by about 70,000 residents from the surrounding areas.
Also present were the Prime Minister’s wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and his wife Puan Sri Noorainee Abd Rahman and Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman.
Najib said another secret of the BN government’s success was its ability to implement what had been promised to the people.
“We do not forget the trust given by the people because they are the promises that we have made and because of that, the people are more confident in us now,” he said.
He said the situation was entirely different with the opposition, who only knew how to make promises but failed to deliver until now especially in the four states that were ruled by them.
The prime minister said the opposition usually made promises but only few were fulfilled by them.
“Until now, how many of their promises have been fulfilled? The answer is not many,” he said.
He said during the 2008 general election, the opposition has spread various promises, among others to give allowance to housewives who looked after their children full-time and single mothers, but until now it was not implemented.
“They also promised to rent out the premises for free, but look what happened in the Shah Alam Complex, they increased the rental by one hundred percent until there are entrepreneurs asking me, Datuk Seri can you take over the complex.
“We have been cheated and we do not want to be cheated for the second time…don’t be lulled by the promises that are only good to hear,” he added.
