KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 1 (Bernama) — Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has urged Muslims to subject themselves to a mental and spiritual transformation so that the ongoing Ramadan would not be a mere routine fasting month. The prime minister said this would be a month which would “enhance and change our life and make us more pious”.
“It is a month where we can develop our qualities of faith and piety,” he said in a message in his blog, www.1malaysia.com.my.
Najib said that as Ramadan required Muslims to forge brotherhood and unity, it was a time most apt to consolidate the 1Malaysia concept.
“In fact, it moulds the concept of acceptance in the multiracial society in the country, he said. Najib said Ramadan also encouraged Muslims to give alms and share food besides evoking concern for one’s neighbours and friends regardless of racial and religious barriers.
“The month also beckons us to strengthen the bonds of brotherhood and unity,” he said.
The prime minister reminded Muslims to avoid wastage and to spend wisely during the month, in keeping with the spirit of Ramadan. “In keeping with the spirit of Ramadan, and in giving preference to the people’s welfare, the government has established another National Key Results Area (NKRA) to tackle the rising costs of living,” he said.
Najib and his family wished all Muslims in the country “Happy Ramadan” and happy fasting.
