The Minimum Wage Act is one of the steps taken by the Government to help the lower-income group improve their standard of living, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
“We have given special attention to 40% of households below the poverty line who earn less than RM2,300 a month,” he said in a written reply to Hee Loy Sian (PKR-Petaling Jaya).
Hee had asked the Government to state the steps taken to help the lower-income groups, in terms of their salary so they would not feel the burden of the increasing cost of living.
Najib said the Government had also adopted various strategies to enhance their skills and job opportunities. The Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2010 was also aimed at preventing individuals from selling items at a higher price.
The Government also continues to subsidise RON95 petrol, diesel, sugar, flour, cooking oil, and rice to ensure that the products would be affordable, said Najib.
