As you know, I have been a frequent traveler to Kuala Terengganu in the past weeks. It's been hectic and tiring but yes, I have been on the ground in Kuala Terengganu, meeting with people in the villages in their homes, warungs and mosques. I have had numerous meet-the-people sessions at the mosques, schools and community halls. I am also glad to meet the locals comprising different races and communities over breakfast, in their homes and at their favourite coffee shops and eateries. These gatherings with people from all walks of life, different races and communities in their own surroundings reflect the Mesra Rakyat stress of the government. It is not just a slogan, but something that we believe in and practice. This by-election is not a referendum on any individual. It is to ensure a better future for the people of Terengganu.
On Wednesday, I had to take leave during a session with the local community in Kuala Terengganu and return to Kuala Lumpur for the tahlil marking the 33rd anniversary of my late father's death. My mother (Tun Rahah Mohamed Noah) had told me that no matter how busy I would be, I must return to KL (for the tahlil). I had to fulfill my mother's wishes even though it meant having to rush back.
