The Story of 1Malaysia

1Malaysia is built upon the foundations of our Federal Constitution, various laws and policies, the Rukun Negara, Vision 2020, the National Mission and our own view of unity and fairness.

It is a concept that encapsulates the very idea of unity in diversity, and emphasises on the importance of national unity regardless of race, background, or religious belief for a better tomorrow. 1Malaysia remains relevant and extremely important to our nation today.

Federal Constitution:

The supreme law of the land, and formulated by the top leaders of the three major communities, led by our first Prime Minister, Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al Haj. A framework based on parliamentary democracy and constitutional monarchy

Rukun Negara:

  • Belief in God
  • Loyalty to King and country
  • The supremacy of the constitution
  • The rule of law and courtesy
  • Morality

National Mission:

  • To move the economy up the value chain
  • To raise the capacity for knowledge and innovation and nurture ‘first class’ mentality
  • To address persistent socio-economic inequalities constructively and productively
  • To improve the standard and sustainability of quality of life
  • To strengthen the nation’s institutional and implementation capacity.

People First, Performance Now:

The people comes first in all the policies formulated and projects that are implemented by the Government. Emphasis is placed on performance now through Key Performance Indicators that will ensure planning and delivery of projects with big results fast and positive outcomes for the people.

Vision 2020:

Vision 2020 sets the targets for Malaysia to become an advanced nation by year 2020, economically, politically, socially, spiritually, psychologically and culturally

At the heart of 1Malaysia lies the basic ideas, commitment, moral and aspirational values that make up the concept. 1Malaysia is about unity in diversity and inclusiveness, it means accepting and celebrating our differences, not mere tolerance or respect. In our journey towards a developed nation, no group should be marginalised on any element of its background. Hence, social justice lies at the heart of the concept.

There are eight 1Malaysia moral and aspirational values expounded by the Prime Minister: culture of excellence, perseverance, acceptance, education, integrity, wisdom, humility and loyalty which form the foundation of 1Malaysia. The government remains committed in making the people’s welfare its priority in all its policies and projects and this is reflected on the People First, Performance Now tagline under 1Malaysia.
