With nations recently meeting to discuss a climate change treaty, ahead of the Copenhagen summit in December, I'm reminded that the environment is everyone's responsibility, and that we must all change our mindset to give it greater consideration. We should do this especially as we are custodians for future generations.

New Malaysian initiatives unveiled recently leave me feeling ever optimistic that we are doing more to preserve what we have, in order that our children and their children may enjoy our unique, natural wonders for years to come.

Firstly, under Budget 2010, a fund amounting to RM1.5 billion will be established by the Government to provide soft loans to companies supplying and utilising green technology. The Government is furthermore committed to restructuring the Malaysia Energy Centre as the National Green Technology Centre; organising an international exhibition on green technology next year; developing Putrajaya and Cyberjaya as pioneer townships in green technology; and giving priority to environmentally-friendly products and services.

Another initiative sees the Sabah state government partnering with WWF-Malaysia to conserve large tracts of forest to protect the habitat of endangered orangutans. The area targeted for restoration amounts to nearly 1,500 football pitches in size.

Thirdly, there is the National Tiger Action Plan, adopted by the National Biodiversity-Biotechnology Council. The plan targets an increase in Malaysia’s tiger population from fewer than 500 to 1,000 by 2020. The setting up of a National Biodiversity Centre was also agreed, to further strengthen the management and conservation of biodiversity in Malaysia.

We should not stop at these measures. I would like to obtain your views on what more we can do to ensure a greener Malaysia, so that we can learn from each other. How are you reducing your carbon footprint? Please share your thoughts by submitting a comment. Eric Yeap: Towards a greener Malaysia !
Dear Prime Minister,

Compliments to you for quoting "I'm reminded that the environment is everyone's responsibility, and that we must all change our mindset to give it greater consideration. We should do this especially as we are custodians for future generations". Of late we have approached a few Ministries of your government to chip in for a green event Project REVIVE - Port d**kson 2010 to be held on the 26th & 27th November at Dataran Sri Kemang KM 8 but a few of them are like not even replying their e-mail. Its sad that a few of the Ministers have yet to take up the green cause like you have so strongly.
The task ahead would be much easier if the whole Cabinet support the cause of sustainable green living. With that said, we would like to thank MOTOUR, MOH, NRE and KPKT who have pledged their support towards our cause.
And kudos to you Dato' Seri to have taken the initiative to have your office go green.

Askm YAB....

Eric Yeap: Is logging permitted in Belum Rainforest ?
Dear Prime Minister,

I would like to bring to your attention an incident which really took place as me and my friend was driving in and out of Belum Rainforest to recce the place for a green event. Throughout the duration of our passage to and fro at Belum Rainforest we could see almost 40 over trailers carrying logs out of Belum Rainforest. What worry us is that with the amount of logs being transported out daily, will there be any left for our future generation. Is there no law in place to stop logging in Belum Rainforest ? We have send a similar letter to the Forestry Department a month ago and have yet to get a response. And you should see for yourself the amount of black smog coming out from the exhaust pipe of these trailers!

Eric Yeap: www.projectrevive.ca - a green event
Dear Prime Minister,

We are proud to say that our Project REVIVE - Teluk Batik was launched with great success considering with the limited funds that we had.
Project REVIVE was broadcast by Hitz FM, Lite FM, Mix FM and THR Ragaa and was given a mention by The Star and The New Straits Times Newspaper.
Project REVIVE also created quite a buzz in Malaysia's top green blogs, websites and Facebook.

We are in the midst of preparing our next Project REVIVE in a bigger scale and we are looking up to you for some funding.
We hope that with our criteria of bridging Malaysians of different diversity together to care for the environment and pooling together the general public, local government, federal government agencies to create awareness of sustainable green living surely warrant some funding from your goodself. Project REVIVE could easily be position as a Local Agenda 21 or 1 Malaysia's event.
Looking forward to your helping hand.
Thank you.

SuaraRakyat: Green Management - Practice What you Preach
Why is it that the Government of Malaysia always points fingers at Rakyat, forcing and taking action but no action taken on government's part?

I used to work at SONY and it is a culture that all lights were off during whenever we go for lunch. How many government offices do tha?

Lately I went to MPPJ to pay parking summons. Doors were wide open and AC is running. Now where is green in that? Our roads are over populated with ornamental lights. Is all these lights necessary? Isnt this wasting energy?

The opposition controlled states at least have started no plastic bag campaign. As a BN support what efforts are you doing?

Why didnt you look at other source of energy fueled by the rubish malaysians throw everyday. Other countries are doing it.

Or is this just another one of BN's usual acts of talk big do little and tell excuse attitude

jimmy: Green Environment 2
Reduce the use of electric or water, or reduce the development of place is impossible as Malaysia is growing in term of population and technology advance as well.

We need a smarter system, to reduce the wastage of the water process, and electric generated, and improve our agriculture process etc. Spend the cost/research in a wise way because the money is from every Malaysian.

jimmy: Green Malaysia 1
For sure increase of the size of population in Malaysia, and being prospect will bring a big impact to our environment and it cannot be avoid. Nowadays with the rich internet and information access, and the improve of the technology, we have collaboration tools such as Microsoft MSN, Yahoo Messenger, Lotus Sometimes and etc and this help to decrease the usage of the automobile for a meet and discuss. But it is not enough.

As i am a secondary student, even until now work, what is lack of is, a smarter system in Malaysia. In book, or article, or internet sources always say like reduce use of automobile will make environment better and save cost and etc. But the problem is, Malaysia do not have a very good transport system. For example, the public bus transportation and train always delay on time. And i still remember my time in secondary, wait a public transport bus take an hour or even more. Even when i working at KL Central, KTM always come delay, or technical problem.

suzannah ibrahim: green future
A very good morning Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
as you can see, i suggest more bicyle use on roads to reduce CO2.
People of malaysia is afraid to use bicycle for their kids nor themself because of non proper safety for bicycle riders.I hope there is a new planning by openning a new bicycle lane on every highways and every roads..and also a traffic light which allows the riders to cross the roads,by this they have a proper lane to go on and it would not interupt other vehicle riders..

this is one major plan for malaysia to be a better green and also we can ask the fNb to provide paper bags rether than plastic bags..i hope my sayings will be heard and hope to hear from you soon Datuk..

thanks for the opportunity to write to you..
from SZ(biggest green planet fan)
