The subject of the national education system always invites a variety of opinions from all quarters of Malaysian society. I was asked for comments on this subject last Saturday. Although I had given my answer, I feel it pertinent to articulate it once again, and perhaps invite more discussion on this in my blog.

However which way the debate goes, the fact is this: our education blueprint was drafted from the standpoint that all Malaysians have the right to their choice of education in this country. It was a wish of the people following our Independence, and the government acted in accordance with that wish.

Over the years and at almost in every instance, the issue of the ideal education system for Malaysia is politicised. As the Prime Minister for all Malaysians, I view that all of us must find equilibrium. Let us all be reminded that at the end of the day, the crux of the issue is ensuring that our future generations, our future leaders, are able to obtain the best education system. We must make that leap into a knowledge- and innovation-based economy. This is one reason why I announced during the recent budget for the National Scholarship to be awarded to 30 of the best performing SPM students based purely on merit.

I have heard many of you call for a switch to a single-stream system as a way to promote greater unity and integration among Malaysians. However, many do not constitute most. I have also heard many who feel strongly for the right to choose based on the existing education system. I have heard these two different opinions and acknowledge them.

Hence, we must collectively agree upon a system that benefits all Malaysians, that espouses the values we all uphold. Are we prepared to eschew the right to choose and seek a compromise? In voicing our viewpoint, have we given thought to the differing opinions of others? While the public is still ambivalent and disinclined to make that collective decision, I do not wish for discord to arise within our society on a subject of great sensitivity. Even the noblest of intentions can be rendered pointless if we are unprepared to accept and embrace it. We will move to a single stream school only when we are ready and only if this is the wish of the "rakyat".

Nelson: Application of KWSP withdrawal for Education
I recently applied to withdraw my EPF 2nd account for continuing my studies. KWSP rejected my withdrawal on the basis that I am doing the Masters "online". Apparently they dont allow online education, only full time at a uni. Its obvious adults work and cant do the education fulltime at a UNI. I was under the impression KWSP are only custodians of MY money and dont have the right to decide how or with whom i would like to continue my education with. Its pretty frustrating if I am not allowed to use MY money for MY own education. If they serve to block adult education, how are we ever going to become an educated nation by 2050 let alone 2020.Online Education is not something new when even 3rd world countries like Africa has education policies that cover it.Isnt it time we kept up with the evolution and implement policies that encourages adult and online education?

ONG I CHYN: PROGRAM TAJAAN TAMBAHAN JPA 2008/TINGKATAN 6 - lucky but unfortunate......please listen
My daughter was under this JPA scholarship in which if she managed to secured a place at AIMST, she will be sponsored by JPA. But what is very devastating is that due to some policy, AIMST is not taking in any applicant with STPM qualification for this Aug 2010 intake; just to accomodate their own foundation students...for the sake of responsibilty or commercialise profit. Victimized our young and promising generation - this is the batch of excellent students who scored 9A's and above in their SPM 2007, but didn't secured any scholarship or matriculation entry in 2008, as an encouragement, was sponsored by JPA to do their sixth form and promising them a 1st degree scholarship... Please rectify,,,whose fault?

shah: Penambahan Program PhD Bahagian Tajaan KPM (Untuk Guru)
Salam 1 Malaysia Dato Seri,

Harap tahun 2011 menjadi kenyataan.

Sekian.

faridzainal: BERSETUJU DENGAN PANDANGAN SAN BERKENAAN KURIKULUM SEKOLAH DI MALAYSIA
Salam dato sri..

Askm Dato' Seri,

Semalam saya telah mendengar road-show berhubung RM10 dan NEW. Sekian.

Amutha: Dissapointed with the Malaysian Education
I am a Indian SPM student for the year 2009. I achieved 11a's for my SPM. Although i get this result the government does not give me any seat in matriculation and JPA. I think this is because i am a Indian. If i am a Malay student i would have get a seat in matriculation JPA and also Mara Scholarship. So is this Called 1Malaysia where you still select student for their higher education based on their race and religion and not based on their capability. My father is a Taxi driver and my mother is a primary school government teacher. By this do you think you can bring unity and harmony in this country where student like me had lost our trust in the government. in three years time i would the power to vote and i would surely vote someone who can help my brothers and sisters to persue their education not someone who discriminates us based on our race.

Sincere Fan: ...

Salam sejahtera dato 1 Malaysia.
